NEW HORIZON – Advanced Aquaculture
Watch the video showcasing New Horizon’s aquaculture operationsNEW HORIZON LTD, part of the Tiran Group, was founded in 2001 and specializes in advanced aquaculture.
The company operates in Asia through wholly owned subsidiaries and farms under the New Horizon (NH) brand. Its core activities focus on two main areas: high-quality Tilapia production and the generation of all-male freshwater shrimp populations. Products are marketed across Asia – including Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia and other key markets.
Tilapia – Leading Genetic Lines
Tiran Group has invested in and acquired the unique, premium genetic lines originally developed by Kibbutz Nir David – representing more than 40 years of selective breeding to create high-quality, market-leading fish strains.
- Black Tilapia – 100% all-male
A hormone-free, all-male strain characterized by exceptionally fast growth, excellent performance under diverse farming conditions and an ideal shape and size for filleting. - Red Tilapia
A premium-quality red Tilapia with uniform coloration, juicy texture and outstanding flavor, highly preferred in many international markets. - Marine Tilapia
Developed for farming in seawater and offshore cage systems, featuring rapid growth and high tolerance to elevated salinity levels (above 45 ppt).
NEW HORIZON manages the entire biological and logistical value chain – from breeding, growing and maintaining broodstock in its own farms, through fry and fingerling production, and all the way to full management of sales, distribution and supply to customers worldwide. Every shipment is closely monitored by the company until final delivery.
All-Male Freshwater Shrimp Populations
Tiran Group has invested in a unique, patented technology for producing all-male freshwater shrimp populations (Macrobrachium rosenbergii). This breakthrough received the Innovation Award in Paris in September 2013.
The R&D was led by Prof. Amir Sagi at Ben-Gurion University, in collaboration with the laboratory supported by Tiran. As part of this process:
- Production involves injecting a specific protein into males and silencing a target gene, creating functional females that produce exclusively all-male offspring.
- Shrimp grown using this patented method reach commercial weights of 80–120 grams within approximately 5–6 months.
- In mixed populations (males and females), average weights are around 50–60 grams, and in all-female populations about 40 grams over the same period.
- In Asian markets, shrimp weighing 70–80 grams typically sell for around $20 or more, whereas smaller shrimp (40–50 grams) fetch roughly $10.
- Yields from all-male populations are approximately 60% higher than those from mixed-gender populations.
Tiran operates in Asia through fully owned companies under the New Horizon (NH) brand, running aquaculture farms in China, Vietnam and Singapore. Activities are based on an extensive network built over nearly two decades, alongside the promotion of Israeli-made aquaculture systems across various Asian markets.
